The Tunnelling department was integrated into the iPS family in late the 1990’s, in order to allow iPS to expand into the worldwide tunnelling market. Years later we expand our focus into the full scope of the Civil market.
The tunnelling and civil team works mainly from out of our headquarters in Capelle aan den IJssel to serve our clients worldwide. We have undertaken work all over the world, like Sweden, Norway, India, Singapore, Germany and particularly the United Kingdom which has seen successes on the Crossrail Project.
All over the world
Presently the UK office is focusing on upcoming new projects which include waste water systems, station upgrades and large civil construction undertakings. In the Netherlands we closely follow the international markets to identify new opportunities, not only in the Netherlands, but also in India, The Philippines, Thailand, Norway and countries in South America and Africa. Future areas of business interest include the Middle East, Asia, Central Europe and the Nordic countries.
Barrie: “The projects of the department vary a lot. We work with mechanised tunnelling, utilising state of the art Tunnel Boring Machines (TBM) for road, rail and water tunnels. We also undertake conventional tunnelling using the drill and blast method. Most recently, micro-tunnelling and Horizontal Directional Drilling have been included in our portfolio of capabilities. Recent developments in underground technology has seen iPS become involved in the use of the SCL (spray concrete lining) technique primarily for the construction of the prestigious Crossrail project in London.”
The team, divided within the UK and Dutch offices, brings a wealth of industry experience with an abundance of energy and enthusiasm. Barrie, “Our desire is to be viewed as a partner to our clients with the successful completion of projects being a shared goal. The future of the iPS Tunnelling department is in our own hands and we fully intend to make the best use of all the facilities provided by iPS, to increase our successes even further”.
Barrie, “Together with our clients we can help make the world a better and more quiet place above the ground, by creating underground masterpieces.”
