Mexico City, 12 February 2019 – Holland House Mexico, the one-stop shop dedicated to helping Dutch companies be successful in doing business in Mexico, was inaugurated on Tuesday in Mexico City by Ambassador of the Netherlands to Mexico, Margriet Leemhuis, Undersecretary for International Trade of Mexico, Luz María de la Mora, and President of the Advisory Board of Holland House Mexico Anko van der Werff.
“In the embassy we are limited in the services we can offer. Holland House will be the place that can provide these services that add value for companies,” said Margriet Leemhuis, Ambassador of the Netherlands to Mexico. Leemhuis explained that there are large Dutch companies in Mexico with a very strong presence. However, she pointed out that now it is SMEs that face problems trying to set a foothold. “For them, Mexico is far away. Many may not speak Spanish, do not know what to expect and need support. This Holland House is going to facilitate the entrance of these companies to the Mexican market,” she explained.
The ambassador, who noted that the Netherlands is among the five countries that invest the most in Mexico, pointed out the importance of opening this commercial headquarters during the first year of the six-year government administration, especially with the upcoming signing of a commercial agreement between Mexico and the EU. In this regard, Anko van der Werff, President of the Advisory Board of Holland House Mexico, highlighted the new opportunities that will be opened to do business in the country. “We are going to build a more practical platform that offers a better service,” he said. Van der Werff added that in the Netherlands there are more than 300,000 SMEs, which implies an immense opportunity. “If only 1 percent starts doing something in Mexico, we already have 3,000 companies. If each employs three or four employees, there are already 10,000 jobs that can be generated. This is positive for both countries,” he said.
Edo Offerhaus, General Manager of NLinBusiness, the entity that supports Dutch companies doing business abroad and coordinates the opening of Holland Houses in strategic cities around the world, said that Mexico City has become a city of opportunities for Dutch entrepreneurs. “We are happy that the local business community, the Embassy of the Netherlands and the Netherlands Business Support Office (NBSO) have taken up this initiative in Mexico,” said Offerhaus.
The opening of Holland House Mexico was attended by more than 150 Mexican and Dutch business and political leaders illustrating the strong interest in strengthening the Dutch-Mexican relationship.
